How to turn on RCS messaging on your iPhone
The first thing you need to do before you start the steps to turn on RCS Messaging on your iPhone is to ensure that your device is running iOS 18 or later. This feature is only available with iOS 18. So, update if you are using iOS 17 or older versions.
- Step 1: Open the Settings app on your iPhone
- Step 2: Go to Apps from the settings
- Step 3: Tap on Messages > Text Messaging
- Step 4: Now, tap on RCS Messaging option (you’ll find it under the Text Messaging option).
- Step 5: Finally, turn on the toggle for RCS Messaging.
Cannot find the RCS Messaging option on my iPhone
If you don’t find the RCS Messaging option under the Text Messaging option as shown in step 4 above, then it could mean a couple of things. One could be that you haven’t updated to the iOS 18 or higher, which is required for RCS Messaging on iPhone. Another possibility is that your carrier does not support RCS Messaging at this time.
If it is the former, then get the new iOS 18 update. For this, go to Settings > General > Software Update. Then select the latest update that is available and select Install Now.
But if it is the latter, then you should contact your carrier about this. Also, you can check whether your carrier supports RCS messaging or not. For this, go to Settings > General > About > Carrier. If your carrier supports RCS messaging, then you’ll see Voice, SMS & RCS. But if it doesn’t support then you’ll only see Voice & SMS.
RCS Messaging not working on my iPhone
Even after confirming that the carrier supports RCS messaging and it is still not working on your iPhone, you could try restarting your iPhone. But the best option would be reaching out to your carrier’s customer support for further assistance.
RCS Messaging is a new feature for Apple and so it is having to many issues. I would recommend that you give it some time. Apple would likely fix any issues in future updates.
